The artist Joanna Blanquart White was born in 1938 in London, within the sound of the Bow Bells from the church of St Mary-le-Bow in the City of London.
Drawing on her rich personal history, she offers us her own vision of the different stages and facets of Marilyn’s life — showing her naked, as a femme fatale, as her inner child, revealing her incredible and tragic destiny.
With humorous and enchanting titles such as “To Bed or Not to Bed,” “Dancing Back to Back,” “Sois Belle et Tais Toi,” “The Princess & the Showboys,” and “Missing Screw,” Joanna manages to captivate and convey the essence of her various pieces.
A gypsy-hearted nomad from the hippy era, she still dreams of her caravan and of living on a little plot of land with a spring. “I’m not a Marilyn groupie,” she will tell you. “To me, she represents all women — and I want to paint Herstory.”
