The “Heavens Above on Heavens Below” series is a profound reflection on the oyster, inspired by a line from Francis Ponge's poem in “The bias of things”.

The second series, produced between 2022 and 2023, is distinguished by its eggplant background, creating a darker and more complex atmosphere. The oysters, painted in a less conventional manner, incorporate striking petrochemical colors, evoking the repercussions of nuclear disasters such as nuclear testing at sea and the tragedies of Fukushima. This series offers an artistic meditation on the coexistence between the fragile beauty of oysters and contemporary threats to their marine habitat, inviting the viewer to reflect on the crucial environmental issues of our time.

The first series of 12 paintings, dating from 2016, presents delicately painted oysters on a white background, creating an atmosphere of purity and introspection. These works captivate with their finesse, expressing a poetic contemplation of the nature and essence of the oyster, which, for the artist as a shell, evokes the birth of Aphrodite, thus transforming these small still lifes into a tribute to art.
