From the “Adynamia” series.

“Adynamia (Greek ἀδυναμία – helplessness) is a sudden loss of strength, muscular weakness, when a person no longer has the strength to move. Ancient medicine, which, among other forces of nature, assumed the existence of a special vital force, used the word adynamia to denote exactly the lack and extinction of this vital force. We experience many negative emotions that blur the line between our thoughts and reality. We see news every day in different formats: videos, photos, personal messages on social media. They scare us, shock us, make us angry, hate us or worry us. We see people in photos in a certain stressful situation and we not only understand what they are feeling at that moment, we begin to feel the same thing ourselves. But when we observe, we do not directly participate in the events we read about. Often our reality at any given moment is that we are sitting somewhere, staring at our phone or computer. But the strong emotions we experience activate the sympathetic nervous system and trigger a cascade of physiological processes geared toward a flight or fight response. But we have no one to run from or fight against, so our excitement finds no outlet. Powerlessness makes us passive, it paralyzes us. Or rather, it does not paralyze us, it forces us. We feel something that compels us to do nothing. Where I could do something, I am obliged to do nothing. Impotence is constraint, it is force, it is power. It's like rape. I need to let go, but I don’t want to – and that makes me a victim. »
