The project "Lili Elbe Show. On The Stage" revolves around the ballet created by Sasha Riva and Simone Repele, inspired by the true story of Danish landscape painter Einar Wegener (1882-1931), one of the first transgender women (Lili Elbe) to undergo sex reassignment surgery in 1930. She died three months after her uterus transplant.
“It is an intimate tale that belongs to us all thanks to the interpretation and choreography of Sasha Riva and Simone Repele, who explore the demon of human dissatisfaction, the need for acceptance that everyone demands of themselves and the feeling of inadequacy that often overwhelms us.” (Russian Ballet Jewels)
Angelina Bertrand's work offers an aesthetic gesture. It is narrative and plays with literary references. It is a moment of grace.
