He is from Geneva. Aldo has been able to bring together several strings to his bow throughout his career. Many knew him during his period as a sculptor-painter, others found themselves in front of his camera. He is an outstanding cinematographer.
“Abstraction under glass”
This hanging constitutes the culmination of work undertaken in 2012. The artist expresses himself in series. He explored wood, stone, metal, chalk and paper; Periods of research in which he immerses himself for a period of time, before changing medium.
This work emerges from the support and finds its place on the glass. It pushes aside the frame and imposes movement. Suspended in space, the pieces are anchored by their reflection in the wall on the one hand, and in the eye on the other.
This research focused on the integration of the work in space. Through reflection, that of the viewer and the environment, the work tends towards homogeneity in a setting, while expressing a strong identity.
Aldo likes to draw attention to the method that, according to him, “makes the piece.” As many universes are presented as there are works.
The artist chooses to explore this medium and expresses himself through glass, a hard and brittle object, bright color and an abstract form often on the edge of repetition and regularity. He manages to offer a soothing journey, from Lisbon to Istanbul, his favorite cities.
We therefore decided to exhibit, alongside recent work, the “holey papers”. Reliefs rather than colors. Intervention in the subject rather than support.
