nikolay CHEREDNICHENKO (UK) 1958

Born in 1958 in Nakhodka, Russia, Nikolay Cherednichenko followed an unconventional artistic path. After studying electromechanical technology and working in various professions, from radio operator to entrepreneur, his artistic awakening came at age 32 when he felt an “art fever” and created his first work using honey-coloured watercolour on plywood. Since 1991, Cherednichenko has devoted himself to painting and sculpture, producing over 1500 works, over 1000 of which are held in prestigious collections around the world, including the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and the Perth Art Gallery.

Initially fascinated by wood carving, Cherednichenko’s work has evolved, blending narrative scenes with increasingly abstract forms inspired by artists such as Picasso and Dali. His experiences in Australia and Switzerland have further deepened his interest in conceptualism and vibrant colour palettes, shaping his expressionist cityscapes, landscapes and floral arrangements. Known for his spontaneous and dynamic use of colour and form, his work often explores complex Christian themes, drawing on his extensive studies in theology.

Now residing in rural Yaroslavl, Cherednichenko continues to experiment with geometric and linear forms while revisiting traditional genres. His recent works reflect the value of life, shaped by his personal experiences and the challenges of recent years. Working alongside his daughter and artistic director, Evgeniya Negrebetskaya, he remains active in the contemporary art scene, organizing exhibitions and expanding his artistic reach.
