gabriel RUTA (FR-IL) 1978

Born in 1978 in Geneva, Gabriel Ruta graduated from the Geneva School of Fine Arts in 2003.
The artist defines his work in two words: "Diversion and engagement." Almost all of his work is based on this principle: "Whether it involves diverting the technique, the materials or the subject, this approach allows me to insist more on my subject. Thus, my work is a cross between diversion and engagement, the first in form and the second in substance. I mainly address subjects such as ecology and human rights. The treatment of these themes questions the human sciences, the links between man and politics and the relationship between man and nature."

“Ruta’s work is close to nature; the artist is an intellectual. His approach oscillates between a firm commitment and a controlled drift. He studies his subject, then tries and patiently produces timeless works. His speech is poignant; the graphic work enchants the viewer. The first note attracts curiosity. The second questions, shocks or upsets. The tertiary note calls for empathy.
All his work is definitely not trying to please. Beautiful and imaginative, it takes the amateur to witness and invites to transmit.
His new series "Plant Entomology" are fragments of a dreamlike vision, insecticide and plant celebration come together and offer unique pieces whose extreme fragility echoes that of our exhausted environment.
The work delicately conveys the artist's message, first to the art lover and then to those around him. He has the intelligence to avoid the pitfalls of a work whose commitment would obscure the aesthetic balance.
