“A life’s work” or “The house of treasures”. This would have been the title of the exhibition if we had wanted to name it.

Thanks to Barthélemy his son, I had the chance to discover the extraordinary and very inspiring work of Jean-Pierre. This was common in 2013.

Enchanted by the almost mystical dimension that emanates from his works, I literally fell under the spell.

This work is powerful. The last taste that remained with me upon discovering his pieces was indeed that of power. At first glance, Mother Nature took me away: The chosen colors, a washed out and arid earth, a sky dazzling with azure blue. Then I approached the canvas and as I approached, the layer of anchor deposited meticulously, without any possibility of error, became lighter. She became visible. Until I can no longer move in front of the canvas.

Faced with these paintings, the call to travel and the artist's completed journey confront each other. These months spent on the canvas that I observe make the concept of time almost incompatible with the work. Concentrating on a canvas, all this time, all these years, minute after minute, with all the thoughts that passed through JPG, that very precisely transcends it. Well beyond the know-how and the idea, he charged his works with his life.

I encourage anyone to experience the work of Jean-Pierre Grossmann. I say experiment, because it is not a painting exhibition where the spectator gets lost in imagining the artist's approach, here, we are forced to contemplate the work, and to share with it, in all simplicity.

JP Grossmann comes from the “fine arts” of Basel. After several exhibitions at the start of his career, he, to the detriment of the public life of his art, devoted himself to the development of his approach while remaining constant over the years. Today, it is a real treasure that he has created. We will only be able to exhibit a series of fifteen paintings for this first edition.

We look forward to seeing you again in March and sharing this with you.
