edgard SOARES (BR) 1965

Edgard Soares, born in Brazil in 1965, studied at the Beaux-Arts in São Paulo, Geneva and Lausanne. Since 1996, he has worked alongside Carmen Perrin as an assistant and collaborator. Based in Geneva, he has been represented by Galerie Fahid Taghavi since 2012 and regularly participates in group exhibitions in venues such as Andata Ritorno, Espace L, and Kugler.

Passionate about relief and narration, Edgard Soares explores contemporary sculpture with a style that is both playful and critical. He likes to divert everyday objects to transform them into surprising and stimulating works. Questioning is at the heart of his work, seeking to challenge and entertain art lovers.

Part of his work is devoted to animals, especially dogs, which he considers essential in human life. With his humorous approach, he has created a series of word games on the subtleties of the French language, exhibited in the public space with great success.

His work reflects a fascination with contrasts and oppositions, a recurring theme in his creations. This duality is notably reflected in his black and white mural series, “Les Zèbres”, as well as in his reflections on the concepts of emptiness and fullness, back and forth, and movement.
