Angelina Bertrand is a portrait photographer whose work explores the emotional resonance of performance and the intimate nature of the human spirit. Working in Europe and Latin America, she moves fluidly between studios, stages, and backstage areas, and unpredictable outdoor environments, from rain to desert sands. Her camera, a true extension of her vision, documents the narrative beauty of life, revealing the souls of her subjects and inviting the viewer into nuanced visual narratives.
His project “Monochrome Night,” shot with a monochrome Leica M, showcases his mastery of natural light, bold tonal contrasts, and natural tones to create powerful and intimate portraits. Each image transcends mere representation, becoming a story that resonates with clarity and emotional depth.
In his ongoing collaboration on “Lili Elbe Show. On The Stage,” Bertrand documents the ballet conceived by Sasha Riva and Simone Repele, inspired by one of the first transgender women to transition. This deeply narrative series captures rehearsals, backstage, and live performances, reflecting Lili Elbe’s story through gesture, costume, and light. Fahid Taghavi describes his images as “full of aesthetic gestures, narrative layers, and moments of grace, capturing literary and dramatic nuances in every frame.”
Commissioned by Leica Camera, Bertrand shot “The Moment of Endless Wind in Dubai,” using the Leica SL3 to master the complex challenges of light and environment, showcasing its ability to translate extreme environments and demanding light into poetic visual narratives.
Energetic, methodical, and curious, Bertrand balances a prolific international practice with life as a mother of five. She is constantly moving across continents and creative disciplines, producing sensitive, powerful, and deeply narrative works. She continues to develop her unique visual voice—precisely the quality that Galerie Fahid Taghavi is proud to represent.
