Aldo Mugnier was born in Geneva in 1956. Passionate about wood, he trained as a cabinetmaker and started his own business at a young age. He later discovered his inclination towards art and unique creation. He enjoyed working with noble materials and attended the Beaux-Arts in Geneva, where he achieved significant success upon graduation.
In parallel with his artistic work, he developed an interest in photography and pursued a career as a cinematographer, mainly in film. He has worked on around thirty feature films, TV series, and telefilms.
His artistic career is firmly rooted in French-speaking Switzerland. He has exhibited in Portugal and France represented by several galleries before beginning his collaboration with Galerie Fahid Taghavi in 2010. His work is included in public collections such as the Fonds d'Art Contemporain of the City and Canton of Geneva.
“Aldo Mugnier is an explorer, drawn to materials. His remarkable curiosity constantly leads him towards new materials and techniques. He works in phases and periods. He has sculpted chalk and wood, combined wood with metal and stone, painted glass, and explored unusual material collages. He has pierced paper to the point of breaking its structure, transforming it into lace. He paints, engraves, and explores new mediums, without chasing innovation (a meaningless term, in my opinion). He pushes his inspiration to the point of exhaustion, acknowledges it, and then, moves in a new direction.
Aldo Mugnier is undoubtedly one of the artists whose work most closely reflects his emotions among those I’ve met.”
